West Coast 4-Wheel Drive Club is unique in that
it is a family oriented club with still the hard core, extreme type of wheel'n available.
We rate our trails from 1-5, with 5 being the hardest. A 5 trail requires
33" tires, lockers and a winch or you do not go. We do trails from the Rubicon
to Sledgehammer, Big Bear, TDS area, Panamint, Dusy, Serria Trek, etc. We try to
plan a week long vacation trip each year, a Christmas party, and club picnic.
The week vacation can include California trails or out of state trails. We have done
trails in Las Cruces NM, Farmington NM, Moab Utah, Washington State, Arizona and
Colorado. We manage an adopta-a-trail for the USFS in Big Bear, called Gold
Mountain. Members, guests and the Rangers spend one day every summer doing trail
maintenance, cleanup and roughing up where required.
After a hard day of work West Coast provides dinner for all. We plan at least one trip a month. There
are splinter runs all the time. We have about 25 members. Cost of the
membership is $60/year payable to the club in Jan. We also require members to be
members of Cal 4-Wheel Drive. Cal 4-Wheel drive dues are collected in May and sent
in by West Coast. Membership requirements
include attending 3 meetings and 3 runs, with one run being an overnighter. This
way we get to know you and you us. We have a lot of fun. The rigs in the club
include the oldest, a Jeep flat fender, to the newest Jeep
Rubicon. There are a
couple of older Broncos, an Amigo, some TLC's, and Toyota 4-Runners. Engines are V8's to 4 cylinders. A
lot of the camping is done by big rigs, motorhomes, campers, etc. to a few tents.
